Pro Kit isn't a list of names someone typed up. The directory is built by our system from official sources, then checked against the providers' own websites.
1. The registers
Providers are drawn from official regulatory registers:
- the FCA register of electronic money institutions, and the firms that act as their agents
- the FCA register of authorised payment institutions
- the FCA mutuals register, for credit unions and building societies
- the Bank of England list of insurers regulated by the PRA
- Ofcom's list of mobile network operators and providers
A small number of specialist providers, such as car subscription services and specialist insurance brokers, are added from our own research.
2. Matching to Companies House
Each firm is matched to its Companies House record where possible, so it can be identified by its company number rather than just its name.
3. Checking CIFAS membership
Each firm is then compared with the member list CIFAS publishes, by company number or an exact name match. Together with what the provider says about who it accepts, that sets its stance label.
4. Checking the website
Finally, each provider's website is checked to confirm the firm is still trading and the site is genuine. The description and features on each card are then written automatically by our system from the register data and the provider's own published information.
Keeping it up to date
Every Monday, every provider's website is checked again and new firms that have appeared on the FCA registers are added. See Weekly checks and verified dates. Members can also suggest a provider.
No provider pays to be listed, and no commercial relationship affects which providers appear or where. We receive no commission or referral fee from any of them.
