Can Providers See My Marker?

Only CIFAS members can search the National Fraud Database where your marker is held. How that works, and how Pro Kit shows which providers can see it.

Share

Your CIFAS marker is recorded on the CIFAS National Fraud Database. Only organisations that are members of CIFAS can search it, and they usually do so when you apply for a product.

Providers that are CIFAS members

When you apply, a member can check the database and see that a marker has been filed against you. What it does next is up to the provider: some decline, some carry out extra checks, and some still accept depending on the type of marker and the circumstances. In Pro Kit these providers are labelled Case by case.

Providers that aren't members

A provider that isn't a CIFAS member can't search the database, so it can't see your marker through CIFAS. In Pro Kit these are labelled Generally accepts, a label also given to CIFAS members that accept people with markers for a particular product. See CIFAS stance labels explained.

How Pro Kit knows

Each provider is matched against the member list CIFAS publishes, by company number or exact name, when it's added to the directory, and its label is reviewed regularly after that. See How providers are found.

You can see exactly what CIFAS holds about you by asking CIFAS for a copy of your data. It's free. You can request it from CIFAS.
