How these figures are made

They describe the cases brought to ADVICIFAS Pro, not every CIFAS marker in the UK. People who come to us are not a representative sample. For national figures, see Cifas's own Fraudscape reports .

  • Shares only. We publish percentages, never how many cases there are.
  • Small groups are never named. An institution or marker type is shown only when it stands for at least 10 cases. Everything smaller is combined under "Other".
  • One thing at a time. Institutions and marker types are counted separately and never combined with each other, with dates or with outcomes.
  • Monthly, and fixed once published. Each update covers cases to the end of the previous month and is never changed afterwards.
  • Rounded to the nearest whole percent, so shares may not add up to exactly 100%.
  • Members only. Our own staff and test accounts are left out.
